Phronesis was created by Copenhagen-born/London-based bassist Jasper Høiby in
Denmark in autumn 2005. Jasper released the Phronesis debut album ‘Organic Warfare’ in
November 2007, on Loop Records. Organic Warfare was on the US itunes ‘top 100 selling
albums’ list for two months following it’s release and has so far sold more than 12,000
downloads internationally. Since returning to London Høiby has reformed Phronesis with
Ivo Neame (UK) on Piano and Anton Eger (SE) on drums. Their music is fresh and exuberant
with strong melodic grooves, inspired by a world heritage of rhythms and sounds.
The trio released their hotly anticipated 2nd album ‘Green Delay’ in June 2009.
Green Delay has been voted the 9th best album of 2009 in Jazzwise’s best 100 albums chart.
This follows huge critical acclaim from the likes of the Guardian, Jazzwise and the Times.
Phronesis have now signed to Edition Records, for whom they will record their third
album, live in London on March 3rd and 4th 2010, as part of a UK tour.
This record will feature US drummer Mark Guiliana who has been described by Modern
Drummer magazine as “at the forefront of an exciting new style of drumming”.
