Matt and Phreds - The only dedicated live jazz club in the north

Welcome to Matt and Phred’s Jazz Club.

We are a true, dedicated, music venue providing world-class jazz music on 6 nights of every week [Monday to Saturday].  We also host some non-jazz events on our ‘day-off’ that include the fantastic Filmonik [see the news page] – after all, talent is talent whether in the form of jazz, other genres of music or even film making and we believe all should be encouraged and supported wherever possible.

Of course the main reason we are here is for the JAZZ!   Obviously we feel that it is vital to work with and support the talented pool of musicians based in and around the northwest and these great guys [not to mention those we haven’t yet met] will always play a significant part in the club.  We also believe that an extra treat once in a while is never a bad thing. With that in mind we are constantly working on bringing to the club some of the names that most of the time we only get to read about or watch on TV.  Therefore, you really must keep an eye on our gig listings via the diary page and also subscribe to our newsletter.

Renowned for our fantastic [and hand-made from flour to pie – as they say in NYC] pizzas we are also rapidly developing a reputation for our superb set menus that incorporate some fantastic dishes [made fresh every day depending on seasonal availability and quality of produce].  Information about our food, and importantly our attitude to our food, is provided on the menu area of the site.

Also in the menu area you will find detailed information about the all-important beverage side of things!  We are rapidly developing something of a name for our superb collection of spirits, our small but wonderful selection of cocktails and, an ever evolving wine list.  Lest I forget, we are also continually introducing new beers [sometimes even weird – strawberry beer??] for those of you that prefer the grain!

Returning to the news page, from May 2007 I will be posting a weekly update informing our loyal readers / visitors of not only what has been going on but also about what is about to happen in terms of gigs, developments at the club and so on.  Also, by way of keeping up with the rest of the world, we have recently setup our MYSPACE site.  This is largely used to stay in touch with the musicians we work with [or hope to] but all are welcome!

Briefly, our membership scheme is being reviewed and will be re-launched towards the end of the summer.  Without going into specifics it will be limited [in terms of numbers], it will be great value and it will be a huge mistake for any jazz lover not to join!
